Focus of enquiry will be to assess attainment and progress without levels.

The improvement priority being addressed by the network.

Developing accurate teacher assessment without levels through:

  • Supporting teachers to understand the key ideas, skills and concepts in the new programmes of study in the curriculum for each year group in narrative and number
  • Defining/understanding what expected and exceeding outcomes are in each year group for narrative and number
  • Developing a bank of appropriate challenging questions to support assessment of key ideas, concepts and skills
  • Providing matrices for teachers to use to support next steps learning so that breadth and depth are achievable within the same year group
  • Challenging all children during narrative and number activities so there are no limits to achievement – learning is not capped

What will be the impact of the network’s activities?

  • Teachers will know and understand the learning that they teach in narrative and number skills, concepts and ideas in their year group and be able to provide the challenge that is required to achieve the breadth and depth of learning
  • Teachers will have an outcomes based document that informs them of what expected and exceeding outcomes look like in each year group in narrative and number
  • Accurate records enable teachers to provide learning opportunities for children that match their current need
  • Each year group has a document that provides generic and specific challenging assessment questions that a teacher can use to measure how much a child really understands
  • Children are challenged, so there is deep and meaningful learning within the year group expectations, more children are exceeding expectations as a result of using the matrix of breadth and depth teaching
  • Learning is provided for all children who can enter the lesson at the appropriate challenge as a result of teachers accurate assessment
  • Redbridge schools will have an outcomes based document that informs them of what expected and exceeding outcomes look like in each year group in narrative and number. This document will provides lines of development for each year group in narrative and number which will enable depth and breadth coverage and accurate assessment.
  • The London Borough of Redbridge will have skilled leaders of assessment in depth and breadth learning for year groups  1- 6
